about

Tomas More returns to Items & Things with "High Romance": his fourth appearance on the label following his 2011 label debut "The Door", and a subsequent appearance on label compilation "Variables". Having also formed an important role as part of the renowned webzine and label Get The Curse, with "High Romance" More dives into a presentation of his own unique blend of electronics, with the EPʼs five cuts spanning both the worlds of club-ready house and techno and experimentations into somber ambience and soundtrack-ready production.
Title track "High Romance" begins proceedings, with its haunting vocal lines and driving rhythmic section developing the rhythmic anticipation that arrives in the form of "Exit Ghost", a high octane slice of abstract house music that is perhaps the EPs most twisted, yet club friendly composition.
Rounding off the EPʼs rhythmic section with "The Signal", Moreʼs vocals talk of desiring to be someone else, before he goes on to do just that: closing the EP with two pieces of ambience – "Winter’s Trap" and "Small Talk In Public Places". More shifts pace and tone with distinct ease, providing hints of Stockhausen-esque tonal dissonance that sit alongside musique concrète musings, pulsing sine waves, drawn out atmospherics and twisted electronic melodies. Demonstrating an alternative side of his production ability, these two pieces round the EP off with a sharp, yet welcome contrast to its first segment - yang to the yin of earlier dance excursions - completing the EP with an advanced sense of unique musical cohesion.
